Priyanka Gandhi to contest from Wayanad in electoral debut, Rahul Gandhi to retain Raebareli

On Monday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced that former Congress President Rahul Gandhi will keep his Raebareli seat, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will run from Wayanad. This marks Priyanka's first election. Both Rahul and Priyanka assured they will manage both constituencies together.

Decision and historical significance

Rahul Gandhi said it was a tough choice as he is deeply connected to both Raebareli and Wayanad. He will continue representing Raebareli, a constituency long linked to his family. Priyanka expressed her happiness and confidence in taking on Wayanad, promising to work hard and maintain the support of the people. This decision was influenced by the need for Rahul to stay in Uttar Pradesh, a crucial political state.

Party strategy and future plans

The announcement came after a meeting attended by key Congress leaders. Kharge emphasized the importance of Rahul retaining Raebareli due to its historical connection with the Gandhi family. He also highlighted the expectation that Priyanka will strengthen the party's presence in Wayanad and support her brother in Raebareli. 

Kharge praised Priyanka for her past efforts in Uttar Pradesh, noting her dedication and hard work. Rahul expressed confidence in her ability to win and serve effectively. This move aims to balance the party's representation across northern and southern India, aligning with the Congress's broader goals for revival in key regions.
